Johnson Sentenced Slight Chance of Obtaining Cowher

Bill Cowher, in his first extensive comment on his ill-fated flirtation with the Jets, said Tuesday morning there was a "very, very unlikely" that has accepted an offer to coach the team, but confirmed that former Steelers coach I wanted to meet with owner to "get some kind of closure."

Cowher, who appears on WFAN "Boomer and Carton Show," as a political fact, avoiding a lot of questions. But he made a definitive statement: there is no possibility that the Jets coach this season.

Asked if there was a reunion with Johnson if the owner called and apologized for not talking with him last week, Cowher said, "Not at this point. I have committed myself. I'm not going to coach next year."

In the Daily News reported last Saturday, withdrew from consideration Cowher - several hours after agreeing to talk with the Jets - because he said Johnson was outside the country and was not immediately available. Cowher confirmed that he never spoke with Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum.

Johnson say that he was willing to talk to Cowher on the phone, but we learned that not even Johnson has a message that Cowher wanted to talk to him. The owner, who lost the interviews with Brian Schottenheimer, Bill Callahan and Steve Spagnuolo, returned from holiday on Monday and will be involved in the rest of the interviews.
