Worlds Smallest Car

What is the smallest road-legal car ever produced? That was in my mind before thinking about fast cars, speed cars, and others relate with cars. Then I start searching, and I found this car, Peel P50 microcar. So I start to write this “small” article.

Peel P50 was manufactured in 1962 and 1965 by Manx Peel Engineering Company. This three-wheeled microcar currently holds the record for the smallest-ever automobile to go into production. The size is 34 cm long and 99 cm wide, with a weight of only 59 kg. A Peel P50 has gone on display at Ripley's museum in Piccadilly Circus, London as Worlds Smallest Road-Legal car ever produced.

Designed as a city car, it was advertised as capable of seating "one adult and a shopping bag." The vehicle's only door was on its left side, and equipment included a single windscreen wiper and only one headlight. Standard colors were Daytona White, Dragon Red and Dark Blue.
The car has a motorcycle engine and has no reverse gear. It has a handle on the back so the driver can get out and pick the car up to turn it around.

The original production run of about 50 cars were sold at retail for just under £200. Only twenty Peels P50 can survive today, which means originals now command prices in the region of £35,000 to £50,000.
